Welcome to Bay High School

Bay High School has a current graduation rate of 94.3% and is number sixteen in the state of Mississippi and number two on the MS Gulf Coast in graduation rate. Bay High School has the second highest rate of graduation of students with special services in the state of Mississippi. Bay High School is a 4-year public high school enrolling approximately 540 students.  The student body is culturally diverse with a population that is 67% white, 28% black, 3% Hispanic, and 1% Asian and 1% other.   Bay High School is accredited by Advanced Ed. The Class of 2023’s ACT composite score average was a 21.25 vs. the national average of a 20.6. Bay High School has been named as one of the top 25 high schools in Mississippi by Stacker.com.  100% of the athletic teams are classified as scholar athletic teams by the MS High School Activities Association.


The Bay High School English II State Assessment Proficiency data is ranked number 2 in the state of Mississippi and we are ranked number 1 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Bay High School US History State Assessment Proficiency data is ranked number 9 in the state of Mississippi and number 3 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Curriculum

The academic program at Bay High School is organized on a 4x4 schedule.  Twenty-four honors classes are offered in math, English, science, and social studies.  The following Dual Credit courses are offered on Bay High School’s campus through William Carey University: Algebra, English Composition I, Physics, Psychology, Trigonometry and World Civilization I and II.  Dual enrollment courses are available from Pearl River Community College.  The following Advanced Placement courses are offered: Biology, English Language and Composition, Statistics and World History   A minimum of 28 credits is required for graduation.  Students may earn the following diploma endorsements:  Academic, Career/Technical or Distinction.  Students may also enroll in the Honors Program by earning a 3.5 at taking a minimum of 12 honors classes or High Honors by earning a 3.75 and taking a minimum of 12 honors classes.


Class of 2023

34% matriculated to 4-year colleges or universities, 47% matriculated to a 2-year institution, and 19% entered the workforce or the military. Bay High School has increased our Dual Credit opportunities on campus as well as virtually, reinstated the offering of AP courses, has the Health Sciences Sports Medicine vocational course offering, partners with our neighboring school system for additional career technical programming, continues to offer a nationally-recognized JROTC program that provides solid training for career options in the military, mechanics and more.

Bay High has a quality fine arts department that focuses on arts, dance, choir and music. We offer strong and competitive athletic programs that teach teamwork, dedication, character, sportsmanship and more. For the eighth time, the school has been named a National Bronze Medal High School by US News & World Report, and has been continuously accredited by AdvancEd since 1938. We have a new, yet vibrant, Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) system and have received a state grant for this program and are a model site in Mississippi.

Community

Bay Waveland School District serves the cities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland.  The combined population of these cities is approximately 20,000.  The district has a diversified income base; however, for the 2022-2023 school year 100% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunches through the CEEP program
